2006 FIFA World Cup™ Gala |
7 June - Berlin, Germany CANCELLED BY FIFA ON 13 JANUARY. |
The 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Gala will take place in Berlin's
Olympiastadion on 7 June 2006 around 22:00. The Gala has been designed to kick-start the tournament
in style and will feature a multimedia production of music, dance and special effects developed by
famed artist André Heller. The Gala will pay tribute to the emotional power of the beautiful game
through tributes to previous FIFA World Cups™ as well as to Germany and
Berlin. The event will also incorporate the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ motto:
"A Time to Make Friends."
Mass Choreographer Dough Jack, who has worked on Opening
and Closing ceremonies for a number of major sports events in the past 15 years, will lead the several
thousand performers through the intricate production. Stage and set design responsibilities will be
handled by Marc Fisher, a veteran of memorable rock tours by such artists as U2, Pink Floyd and the
Rolling Stones, while musical responsibilities will be handled by superstars Peter Gabriel (score)
and Brian Eno (opening anthem). "It's like having Maradona, Pele, Cruyff and di Stefano all on the
same team," enthused OC 2006 President Franz Beckenbauer. The Gala is expected to last approximately
90 minutes.
Infront Sports & Media, exclusively responsible for international
television sales for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ worldwide, is handling
the global distribution of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Gala.
HBS will be the Host Broadcaster, in charge of the delivery of all feeds and services to Rights Holders.
The TV Producer, TV Director and their team will be made available by a leading German TV channel, soon
to be announced. | |
