In yet another first for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™, HBS produced a New Media Content Package which consisted of an extensive range of new media specific material and services. The content of the New Media Package reflected the demands of New Media Licensees and allowed them to deliver material directly to their customer base, whether online or via mobile networks, while limiting unilateral end-to-end production costs.
New Media Workshop
HBS hosted a “mini WBM" for New Media licensees to address issues such as the production of New Media and the specific unilateral services available to New Media licensees. The New Media Workshop was held at the Hilton Park Munich on 30-31 January 2006 and included both a technical workshop and unilateral meetings. Production of the New Media Content Package The New Media production team will be based at the IBC and will consist of an experienced group of producers and journalists. This team will produce the New Media Content Package to establish benchmark global technical standards. The New Media Content Package will incorporate various innovations designed and implemented specifically for the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.
The New Media Content Package was produced from a clean feed of all matches of the event and included associated background sound, graphics and, where applicable, voice commentary in several languages. It will be produced in a digital format of HDTV quality in an impartial and objective manner, incorporating relevant graphics and factual information in English. It also incorporated the marks, whether as still or animated images. The New Media Content Package is intended for exploitation without the need for extensive editing. Broadcast Partners were, however, permitted to edit the New Media Content Package so as to tailor the material to their requirements (for example, by superimposing relevant factual graphics and information or your customary standard logo). In most cases the material required reformatting to enable viewing on different platforms.
Material was produced in a digital, 720x576 50i/4:3 format and made available in various codecs and sizes suitable for exploitation by mobile telephony networks, Internet streaming exploitation and/or transcoding purposes. All material was made available in conjunction with a corresponding XML file to allow for the full automation of both processing and distribution.
