The Broadcast Partner tour of the twelve 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ venues is now over and despite somewhat alarming weather, which included record snowfall and closed airports, the event can safely be labeled a success.

The registered BPs and HBS team members arrived in Munich on 5 March, visiting the FIFA World Cup Stadium, Munich that afternoon before setting off the next day in two coaches on a 5-day trip around the country. The tour followed a clockwise pattern around the country, making stops in Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern on 6 March, Frankfurt, Cologne and Dortmund on the 7th, Gelsenkirchen and Hanover on the 8th, Hamburg and Berlin on the 9th and Leipzig and Nuremberg on the 10th.

More than 80 Broadcast Partners took part in the multilateral version of the tour, with a further 60 visiting one or more stadiums in a unilateral fashion. Members of the HBS Venue Operations team were present at each stadium to show BPs around and answer their venue-related questions; members of the Logistics, Communication and Information departments were also on hand to address more general inquiries.

The days were sometimes long – even in a comfortable coach, 700 kilometers in a day is no laughing matter. But the atmosphere remained excellent as BPs and HBS staff got to know one another; nightly excursions into town allowed for some unwinding, as did a well-attended social event by the Hamburg harbour. Credit, to be fair, must also be given to Germany’s elevated (and occasionally inexistent) speed limits...

In the end, both Broadcast Partners and HBS staff left the tour feeling they had learned something. The BPs are now able to refine their unilateral production plans for the tournament while HBS staff used the feedback gathered during the tour to gain added insight into the BPs’ wishes and needs. An early example of this is available in the "Stadiums" page of this website, where we have posted detailed maps of the stadiums and host cities in response to Broadcast Partner requests.
