The year 2006 proved to be very successful for HBS and its teams, the pinnacle being the acclaimed delivery of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ where the impressive broadcast numbers reflect the scale of the event - more than 2,200 broadcast hours, almost 500 TV and radio broadcast partners representing 214 countries for almost 100 New Media Partners. For the first time ever, the World Cup has been fully produced in HDTV and featured in more than 70 territories worldwide. 2006 also witnessed the successful broadcast of the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006 through DAGBS, a 50/50 joint venture between HBS and TWI. HBS was involved in the planning and delivery of another major broadcast event which saw over 600 tons of broadcast equipment flown into Doha and almost 1,900 DAGBS Games-time staff from 45 countries hired to work on an event with more sports and venues than the Summer Olympic Games. DAGBS produced more than 2,000 hours of television coverage, a quality and quantity of broadcast that no Asian Games had witnessed before. HBS has just started a new four-year cycle with FIFA. HBS has been appointed as Host Broadcaster for the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. Furthermore, HBS will assist FIFA in the development of host broadcasting requirements, guidelines and the appointment of any locally appointed host broadcaster/producer, as well as the supervision of such locally appointed host broadcaster/producer for the Other FIFA Events 2007 – 2010. HBS will perform several other functions in relation to the Other FIFA Events 2007 – 2010 including coordinating all unilateral client requests and booking arrangements of in respect of the same, and the distribution of the international basic feed. Another important milestone in 2007 will be the Preliminary Draw in Durban on 23 November 2007. HBS and FIFA will take this opportunity to organise the first Broadcast Information Meeting (BIM) in Durban. Moreover, HBS continues to offer to major event organisers a valuable assistance as both a consultant and as an operator. At present, HBS is working on three major events as part of its list of clients. In order to take into account all these challenges, Francis Tellier has announced a few adjustments in HBS organisation. |
